about

Driven musically by a classic blues progression, this Patsy Cline-esque, country-blues hybrid song was written by Hannah about the frustration she felt during her first job in commercial real estate after graduating from Yale. “Our generation was told that we can do what we love and be successful,” Hannah explains, “but the reality is often quite different. After college, many of us find ourselves saddled with student debt, taking on uninspiring jobs that don’t allow us to develop as human beings or allow us much room for creative expression. We want to do work we love and set our own agenda for our lives.”

lyrics

Verse 1
Go to work each morning
Hope for something new
Oh, go to work each morning
To ward away my blues
But workin’ ain’t as easy as one may think it is
With my supervisor, Mr. Monetizer

Chorus
In the morning, oh each morning, I go to work in the morning

Verse 2
I get home each evening
Yearnin’ for to rest
Oh, I get home each evening
Feel I did my best
But hell to pay tomorrow will surely be a test
With my supervisor, Mr. Monetizer

Chorus
In the evening, oh in the evening, I go home in the evening

Bride
I just want to run free, no schedule at all
I been workin’ so hard, I need some time to relax
(Repeat 1x)

Verse 3
One day I’ll find freedom
Freedom is my goal
One day I’ll find freedom
Freedom for my soul
Freedom don’t cost money, it surely can’t be bought
From my supervisor, Mr. Monetizer

Chorus
I’ll find freedom, oh sweet freedom, oh I’ll find freedom

Verse 4
Mothers teach your children
How to read and write
Oh, mothers teach your children
To stand up for their rights
Cuz it won’t be too long till they’ll be working day and night
For my supervisor, Mr. Monetizer

Bridge
They just want to run free, no schedule at all
They been workin’ so hard, they need some time to relax
(Repeat 1x)
